MOTOR CITY MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS FELLOWSHIP
We are committed to doing our part to advance equity and inclusion in the marketing and communications industry.
We know lasting change is made more possible when we create new and wider avenues of opportunity – and when a collective of diverse voices, perspectives and lived experience is the standard of operation.
The Detroit-based Interpublic Group of Companies (“IPG”) agencies that support General Motors are in a position to put that ideal into action.
Detroit, a city of nearly 700,000 residents – of which more than 75 percent are Black – is anchored by Wayne State University, founded in 1868 and Michigan’s third-largest university, and the College for Creative Studies, a prominent private art education institute with more than 1,400 students.
We are partnering with Wayne State and CCS to create a program that hires close-to-graduation or recent graduates to work on the General Motors accounts. There are five IPG agencies in Detroit supporting GM as a client: Commonwealth//McCann, Jack Morton Worldwide, McCann Detroit, MRM and Weber Shandwick.

COMPANIES
Here are the Detroit-based companies playing a role in driving GM’s business and reputational goals:

Commonwealth//McCann is an award-winning global advertising agency founded in 2012 as a division of McCann Worldgroup. Headquartered in Detroit, CW has offices across 16 countries around the world. We’re creatively led and operationally managed, which means everything we do is in support of stronger, smarter ideas that work for our clients. Like handling the basics brilliantly, taking care of the simple things every day, planning for the future and exceeding client expectations. This is accomplished by living our five core values: the Invention to recognize when something of value has been created, the Curiosity to learn and invent new things, a strong sense of Community, showing Kindness to each other and the work, and the Courage to take risks.

Jack Morton is an award-winning global brand experience agency that supports all General Motors vehicle brands and dozens of business units with the design and execution of marketing and sales campaigns and events. We help our GM clients achieve their business objectives through innovative solutions involving:
- Sponsorship marketing
- Sports, music and lifestyle partnerships
- Vehicle launch events and tours
- Dealer business conferences
- Regional market support

McCann has been a part of the Detroit landscape for more than 60 years, thanks to our enduring partnership with GM. Right now, we’re writing a new chapter in the GM story that’s all about electrification, “EVerybody In.” But our passion to build meaningful brands goes beyond automotive. We turned our home state into a magnetic, highly awarded travel brand, “Pure Michigan.” We’re helping U.S. Bank take on the megabanks with a unique take on powering human potential. And we’re helping a global renewable energy giant, Iberdrola, get a foothold in the USA.

MRM creatively engineers total human experiences. Through purposeful, dynamic intersections between strategy, creative, technology and data sciences, MRM operates in a borderless, integrated way, to allow for greater collaboration and velocity— all to the service of helping businesses grow meaningful relationships with people.
